Originally, carpet cleaning consisted of shampooing with soap and water and then extracted with hot water. Steam cleaning was invented as the result of the original shampooing process. It was the step in which the soap was rinsed out of the carpet. In time, this evolved to steam cleaning – eliminating the shampoo and using extra hot water to remove the dirt and oil from carpet. The problem is steam is water and oil do not mix. As a result, steam cleaning removes as little as 5% of the dirt in carpet and a maximum of 20% of the dirt if soap is used. The problem with hot water extraction (steam cleaning) hot water is pushed into the carpet, pushing 80% of the dirt deep into the carpet backing. Some of the water is removed, but not all, leaving a lot of the dirt left behind under the surface. After the carpet dries and over the following month, the dirt will wick back up to the surface. It may seem that you have re-soiled your newly cleaned carpet, but it is the underlying dirt resurfacing.
I’ve worked with and seen the results of many different methods over my 30 years of being in business, and if at any point I thought there was one better than Host, I would use it. Yet in all my years, I have found Host Dry Cleaning to be the most effective cleaning method for carpeting. Host has been tested and proven to remove between 70 and 93 % of the dirt in carpet.
Host is a cleaning compound made of tiny sponge particles that are dampened with a “super-cleaner”. The compound is spread over carpet and scrubbed in with a rotating-brush machine. The cleaner in host is non-soap based, which means it will not leave a residue that will attract dirt. Host Dry Cleaning Solution also uses citrus solvent and alcohol to safely remove oil from your carpet. This is important because oil produced by your skin is transferred onto the carpet; the oily fibers can attract dirt and cause your carpet fibers to stick together showing a matted appearance. Host also contains natural and safe disinfectants that help kill bacteria. This is important because bacteria levels tend to be high in carpet if it is not properly maintained. While many people wait a year or more between carpet cleanings, it’s advised to have oil, dirt, and bacteria removed from your carpet at a minimum of 2 times per year. Imagine how dirty your hard surface floors would look if you only cleaned them once a year! Host may appear to be pricey when compared to steam cleaning, however, the Host Cleaning method helps maintain the longevity of carpet and the overall health of your home far better than any other cleaning method currently on the market.
